Books Read in 2019 (10 years of keeping track!)

Feb 2019-So I didn't actually write anything like goals or whatever in the beginning of 2019. It was a struggle just to get the 2018 post finished!

Reflection Jan 2020- This was my 10th year keeping track of what I'm reading (woah!). I of course am not reading the books I own, whatever, who does? That was a perennial goal that I will drop. I didn't keep track of how many I read until the end of the year which was nice. I do hope to read less next year and more deeply and thoughtfully. Happy to give whatever feedback I can about any of these titles, but really, this list is more for me than you.

Key-
A=audiobook

Books Read in 2018

Jan 2018--I have been waffling between quitting audiobooks to be more present. I still don't read very often, but I listen a lot. I think my goal to read books that first got on my to-read list years ago I'm not really going to follow through with, again. oh well. Here's to a year of variety! and at least one physical book a month, that's an achievable goal ;)

Reflection Jan 2019-I read a lot more adult books than I normally do. I wish I knew how many hours I spent listening/reading, but can't imagine an easy way to keep track of that. I'm happy to answer any questions and further recommend things, just let me know what you are looking for! Really, the function of this list is to make it handy for me to remember.

Books Read in 2016

Jan 2016- My goals this year include reading books I already have on my shelf. I'm not sure why I keep making this goal, since I don't typically follow through with it.  I also don't REALLY have a shelf since most of my books are in storage. I also want to spend more time with people, which I think I am doing better at, at least in the nice weather months.

Jan 2017- So end of year reflection, I think I did ok at spending time with people, but I could do more if I scheduled it ahead of time. A lot of this reading is first thing in the morning or in the middle of the night when I can't sleep or in the car or on the dreadmill. This was the year I transitioned from audio books on CD to audiobooks on my phone through Overdrive. This is probably the year that I've read the most in my life and don't necessarily expect this to become a pattern. I also DID NOT read the books I have on my shelf, yet, again. Please feel free to ask me about any of these books. I enjoyed most of them for the most part and only had one DNF (The Inquisitor's Tale, Chaucer in a modern kids style- which will probably will an award.) There are a lot more YA books out about Mental Illness which I find interesting.

I hesitate to blanket recommend any of these books to all humans even though they all have individual merit as "Every book his or her reader. Every book its reader."- S.R. Ranganathan
However, I will star a few (38) favorites. Also, I'm in love with Jason Reynolds and it seems like everytime I read a teen book I get so frustrated that none of the teens TELL AN ADULT WHAT HAPPENED!!!!!! (although I'm sure that's very close to reality.)

I could go on and on, but this post is already a week late. I love recommending books, let me know if you have questions. I log my books here https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/3441984-jen

Books Read in 2015

My goals this year include, as usual, reading books I already own, which is tough to do because they are older and I often am reading new books in order to know about what is currently trending. I commit to reading at least 12 of them.

I'm not going to stress out about how many books I read this year, and am going to continue trying to prioritize people over books.
_____________
So how did it really go? I only read 4 books that I actually own. 3 in the first month of my resolution. ha. I read some great stuff but I still ignored people sometimes. I read Anna Karenina for the first time and the first book in the Wheel of Time series. I think both of those should count for extra since they were sooo long. Can't wait to see how many award books I read, so on January 11th I'll be watching the ceremony from my computer...

Books Read in 2014

Jan 1, 2014 My goals this year are to not read too many kids books in Jan and Feb and give myself a recharge that way. At some point as an adult, it gets hard for me to suspend reality over and over again and then I don't enjoy them as much. I also plan on reading books that I own, which is a perennial problem for me. Here's to continuing to use audiobooks as bait for running.

update Jan 1, 2015 Well those were my goals- from a quick scan I only read nine books that I actually own. that's awful. 57/123 were audiobooks, so there could be the argument that I don't actually *Read*-- I still don't understand how I only read one book in May. Also, this count only includes books that took me 20 minutes or longer to read. It does not include the picture books that I read. Maybe this year I can be more consistent in writing up little reviews? or not.

I'd love to give you any kind of feedback I can on these titles if you have any questions or want recommendations. I also keep track here.
