Books Read in 2013

Books Read in 2013

I'm trying to prioritize people more this year and read a little less. (well, that didn't happen :( ) I'm already reading a lot of children's books at work that will not go on this list. In Jan of 2014 I have a goal to quit taking out books from the library and read the ones I already own! Books Read in 2012

{Prediction Jan 2012} This year is going to be fewer than usual (I think I say that every year) but really, hopefully by the end of the year I'll have found a sweet job (Check!) and learned Portuguese, so that should leave less time for reading. We'll see.

{Conclusion Jan 2013} There are about 90 books on THIS list. In the beginning I was tracking picture books, but then I started reading them like crazy. I have omitted almost all the picture books and placed items on the list when they were substantial reads, 20 minutes or more? Goodreads says I read 653 books this year. {complete list, here with reviews, some slightly shoddy  http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/3441984-jen }

 I started working on Portuguese, but then I was working hard teaching Spanish again, and didn't have time really. Then I got a job where there was a need for Spanish and Turkish/Russian, so I dabbled a bit in Turkish and thought about whether I should make that more of a priority instead of Portuguese. Really, I think my Spanish just needs to get better. Audiobooks still make up a majority of what I "read." I wish some of the less mainstream theology books were available in audio, Schmemann, anyone?

Of the picture books in my goodreads, I tried to read many bilingual ones, to get a better idea of what is out there. I still want to read more Theology related books this upcoming year.

I've gotten a good start on substantial books for this year with already 5 read, Home by Toni Morrison, Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, Mudhouse Sabbath by Lauren Winner, Year of Biblical Womanhood by Rachel Held Evans and I'm over halfway through Half the Sky by Kristoff and WuDunn. This year I plan on reading some Arabian Nights, Name of the Rose, Pilgrim at Tinker Creek, Leisure the Basis of Culture, and a few others that have been sitting on my shelf far too long.
